ARTIST GATHERINGS 2010

                      ARTIST GATHERINGS FOR 2010

October 4th 2011-Printmaking

November 1st -Felted Christmas Ornaments & Felted Soaps

February 1st-2011-Coiled Pendent Jewelry

March 1st-2011-????????????

The Artist Gatherings are in the Studio of the Bonifas & they begin at 6:30 - 8:30.  The people attending will go home with a finshed piece of artwork & the instructions if they choose to do more.  These Gatherings are made possible with the grant writing by our board members.  The silk painting materials are a donation from Clara Mosenfelder & we purchased them from the Bonifas.

Artist Gatherings-Bay Area Art Association started having "Artists Gatherings"about 4 years ago.  It was an idea Mollie Larsen had during her time as a  BAAA Board member. We have them four times a year beginning in October. We ask different artists to come & share their expertise and knowledge  in whatever field of artwork they choose. Be sure to register early because they fill up fast.

We are able to get grants to do these events which makes them free or the charge is minimal to the public. It also lets us pay the artist for their time.  We have been very successful with the attendence. To find out when they are happening, check under the BAAA  information page on this site. If you are interested in teaching a "gathering" give a board member a call.  We do pay you for your  time when you are demonstrating your field of interest.   906-786-3102

WATERFRONT ART FESTIVAL

                             39th  Waterfront Art Festival 2010

                                 Saturday, August 7th 2010

We had a great crowd  again this year and of course the setting is perfect for a Festival of the  Arts. The judges  have completed their tasks & the ribbons have been awarded and the crowds have visited their favorite artists to congratulate.

The Raffle was so successful that we surpassed any other year with the highest tickets sales ever.  People love winning artwork for the price of a ticket and the proof is in the results.

The vendors with their offerings are always very popular with many favorite food items and afew new ones to try.  The music is always a popular draw and a nice place to enjoy music, food and friends.

Some of the artist are kind enough to demonstate their expertise in the demo tent so the patrons can see how their favorite artwork is created.  Al Hanson does a great job taking the people from beggining to end with a piece of pottery.

Mike Delke the woodcarver has also taken his turn to show the creative process to those attending. Each artist demonstrating can hold the crowds attention while they work their magic.

The crowds were huge, the weather was perfect and the artists all did well & were very happy with this years turnout.  We will be back next year  in the park on the first Saturday in August & we will be celebrating our 40th year as an art organization.

Come & join us in the celebration of BAAA and the members that make it possible.

                                ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Eddie Moritz came to us at the Bonifas from Norway in 1991. Shelly Danielson was her mentor at Norway High School.   How interesting that we had another artist come from the same place.  Jerry Mckie was an artist that taught in Norway & don't we wish they could have met.  Jerry was a painter, potter, woodworker, poet and friend to all animals and "baker of cookies".  He was a mentor to many people and our very great friend.

Eddie says she isn't good at talking about her art so that is why she creates.  Eddie has owned "Artifice Tattoo" for 16 years.  She is a mentor to young people with the "Teen Scene" program at Bonifas. She has been an instructor for drawing at the Bonifas and she enjoys acrylics, pastels, airbrushing, graphite, charcoal and pen & ink.  Watercolor & colored pencil are also among her interest.
