Mehndi: Henna Body Painting with Eddie Moritz
Tuesday, October 7; 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Learn about the long, rich history of Mehndi and wear home your own creation – a temporary tattoo of your very own design. Mehndi is the application of henna as a skin decoration, popular in areas such as South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Somalia. The tradition started in India in the days when bridal decoration was scarce. Henna, a natural product, is a reddish-brown dye obtained from henna bark. It is applied to the hands and feet, where the color will be darkest. Henna paste is usually applied using a plastic cone or paint brush. The painted area is then wrapped to lock in body heat and create a more intense color. The final tattoo is reddish brown and can last anywhere from two weeks to several months.
