SUMMER 2009
ART IN THE PARK
For this Year’s Art in the Park, artist April South-Olson will take you on an exploration through the field of Cryptozoology. We’re going to search for the “Superstar” cryptids, animals that only a few scientists are convinced really do exist -- the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and the Thunderbird. You will also have the opportunity to create your own cryptid monster. You won’t want to miss this adventure!
Week 1: Nessie, the Monster of Loch Ness
It’s an underwater adventure at the park, as we go to Scotland in search of the most famous cryptid, the Loch Ness Monster. You’ll design and set your own scene featuring this phenomenal creature using paints, wood, and found objects.
Week2: Thunderbird
Take to the skies to join the monstrous Thunderbird. With a wing span of 15 to 20 feet we can’t miss him, and you’ll have the opportunity to decorate and construct your own kite. (If flying is new to you, we’ll show you how to soar.)
Week 3: Create your own Cryptid –
Art in the Park is an imagination factory this week, where you’ll build your very own monster. Maybe yours will have tentacles, three eyes, or hair down to its toes. You’ll have to be there to make it come true. Choose from corrugated cardboard, wires, assorted mechanical parts and pieces, and art parts to help you put your creature together!
Week 4: Bigfoot
This final week, we’re going to the Pacific Northwest and into the old-growth forest, hunting for Bigfoot. We will track Bigfoot prints until we find everything we need to make a one-of-a-kind shoe sculpture!
