Rediscovering Ancient Egypt

The priceless objects found in ancient Egyptian tombs have long fascinated museum visitors. Yet few realize that the walls of the tombs themselves hold treasures as well: painted images showing Egyptian life as it was more than 3000 years ago. When artist Judith Barrowman first visited the tombs and saw these ancient scenes, she was so taken by their freshness and vitality that she began to incorporate them into her own paintings. The resulting works that make up this exhibit serve not only to recreate the past, but also show how art exists as a living connection between the world of ancient Egypt and that of the present. In her own work she captures the strength and sensitivity of the Egyptian style of painting in a way that makes them more than copies of the originals.
