It was another gala opening at the Bonifas Fine Arts Center on Thursday, February 24, where artists and patrons of the art gather to celebrate excellence and creativity. What made the evening outstanding, however, was the youthful exuberance of the art and the artists.
The opening was the kickoff for the annual Youth In Art Exhibits sponsored by MeadWestvaco and showcased in the Gallery at the Bonifas.
Art by Elementary School students from all over the area is on display through March 19. The Junior/Senior High School Youth In Art Exhibit opens March 24 and will run through April 20.
Representatives of six award sponsors were on hand to give special recognition to students whose works show originality and excellence in execution. Sponsoring organizations include Bay Area Art Association, the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center, the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District, GFWC, Kiwanis and MeadWestvaco. Winners were:

“I was amazed at the art work by these students,” said Mary Hurley, MeadWestvaco award presenter.
“I’ve never been involved with Youth In Art before it’s just amazing art work by these young people.”
“I’d encourage others to go,” Hurley added.
The Bonifas Fine Arts Center is open to the public Tuesday through Friday,
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge to view exhibits, take docented tours, or attend receptions. For more information call
