Show 2006





“You’re all winners if you’re in this exhibit,” said Janie Paulin, President of Bay Area Art Association at the reception for artists at the Bonifas Arts Center on Thursday, May 18.

Paulin was speaking of the group’s annual Membership Show, which spotlights the work of its members in all media. A total of 125 pieces of art by artists who live in the local area graces the Alice Uren Powers Gallery through June 15.

The show is judged each year by an artist selected by the group. This year’s judge was Patti Smith from Northern Michigan University, who awarded five Honorable Mentions, as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and an overall Best of Show award.

Winners in the 2006 exhibit are:
Best in Show: Brian Burroughs, Escanaba, for Archers in our Arches, pencil
1st Place: Meeghan Burroughs, Escanaba, for Behold the Jewel in the Lotus, intaglio ink
2nd Place: Russell Secrest, Gladstone, for Lizard, copper sculpture
3rd Place: Paul Bowyer, Escanaba, for Shadow Box Collage #3, ink
Honorable Mentions:
Craig Clough, Wilson, for Emerging Rainbow, wood
Beth Cox, Perronville, for Ruby Silver Blue Perfumer, blown glass
Toni Leny, Manistique, for Age and Wisdom, colored pencil
Carolyn St Juliana, Gladstone,  for Tulip Trio, photography
Karla Sunn, Rapid River, for Summer Love, oil
There is no charge to visit the Center or to view the exhibit. Hours at the Bonifas are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
