The artists’ reception for Youth In Art 2007 held Thursday at the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center honored artists in 4th through 6th grades. Awards were presented by Bay Area Art Association, the Bonifas Arts Center, Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District, Escanaba Noon Kiwanis, GFWC Women’s Club, and NewPage, the exhibit’s sponsor.

“It was very difficult to choose among the works,” said Tim Bishop of NewPage who presented the NewPage awards Thursday. “I was amazed at the quality of the work and I encourage all the artists to keep it up.”

Over 500 pieces grace the Center’s walls this year, in both Upper and Lower Galleries and in the Studio.
“It’s a great show, as usual,” said Gallery visitor and local artist Steve Schmeck Thursday afternoon.
“It’s an explosion of color,” said Bonifas staff member Kathryn Morski. “There’s no hesitation on the part of these students. Each has an artist’s vision of how things should be done.”

All winners are honored with ribbons. Bonifas winners will be exhibited in the Online Youth In Art Gallery as well.
Music for the event was furnished by Caitlin Lung of the Gladstone Middle School and Michelle Thomas of Gladstone Area High School, piano students of Karen Pratt.

Two traveling art kits were won as door prizes by participating artists Tyler Anthony and Tyler Staelgraeve.

A reception for artists Kindergarten through third grade and for students in 7th through 12th grade will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 15.

The public is welcome to tour the Youth In Art exhibit through March 29, or to visit any of the eight shows that fill the Center annually. Exhibits change every month or six weeks.

The Center is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is no charge to visit, to attend receptions, or to tour exhibits.
