Two fiber arts exhibits are featured in the Bonifas Arts Center Gallery through July 31. The Michigan Quilt Invitational: The Art of Music and New Fibers 2008 Third Biennial Exhibition will fill the Center with original works in many fiber styles and media. A free reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 25.
“This is a great summer exhibit upbeat, fun, and just the thing to enjoy in a cool Gallery on a hot day or a dry Gallery on a rainy day,” said Pasqua Warstler, Bonifas Gallery and Education Director.
Downstairs, the Powers Gallery is filled with the New Fibers 2008 Traveling Exhibit, the result of a juried competition featuring contemporary fiber art in a broad range of forms. Just about any conceivable project involving fabrics, from traditional to sculpture, conceptual, and installation art, can be found here. The show opened at the University Art Gallery of EMU in Ypsilanti.
Upstairs, the annual Quilt Invitational display consists of pieces by selected Michigan quilt artists which comply with the annual theme. This year the theme is The Art of Music. Each beautifully executed art quilt is someone’s visible reflection on music, rendered in fabric.
As an added bonus, works from the Bay Area Art Association embellish the Studio walls through July 23.
There is never a charge to visit the Bonifas Gallery, thanks in part to support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs. For more information about exhibits and events visit www.bonifasarts.org or call (906) 786-3833.
