Bay Area Art Association Annual Membership Show

Winners in the Bay Area Art Association’s annual Membership Show were announced at the Artists’ Reception last month at the Bonifas Arts Center. Judging was done by Carlyn Lynch and Cindy Schmidt of The Old Church Gallery in Cedar River.
The Best of Show Award was given to April South-Olson of Escanaba for her sculptural piece titled Aged Bits. First Place was Candace Zebell of Menominee for Montana Totem. Ginnie Cappaert of Stephenson won second place for One Pear. Third Place went to Escanaba’s Darlene Prokos for Rachel.
Five Honorable Mentions were also awarded. They were: Janet Bernson for Tranquility; Clara Mosenfelder for Sketchbook Pages; Vicki Shirley for Yielding;
Karla Sunn for Triple Snooze; and Jean Wallin for Josh.
Two more awards will be given at the show’s end. Exhibitors vote on an Artists’ Choice Award, and all viewers are eligible to vote for the People’s Choice Award.
The exhibit is on display through June 18. There is no charge to visit the Galleries; hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In addition to the BAAA exhibit, works by the Gladstone Art Club are on display in the Studio Gallery through June 13.
BAAA members also present the Waterfront Art Festival in August each year, and sponsor a variety of Artists’ Gatherings during the year. Membership is open to all those with an interest in the arts in our area. For more information, call Janie Paulin at 786-3102 or visit http://www.bayart.org.
