A decade of oil paintings by Walter Hamilton fills the Powers Gallery of the Bonifas Arts Center in the show Realization, running through Thursday, February 11. A Meet the Artist Reception on January 7 introduced Hamilton, an Escanaba native, to the public.
Hamilton’s works consist of still lifes, landscapes and portraits, from his work as instructor at Indiana University and as a professional painter in Indiana. His technique is color-based, and he paints from life.
”His still life paintings are so rich,” said Pasqua Warstler, Gallery and Education Director for the Center. “There’s a crispness to his landscapes, as well, and a vitality. He uses a warm palette that makes everything feel like it’s bathed in light.”

Warstler invited area residents in to the Center to view Hamilton’s work and to meet the artist in an open painting session on Thursday, January 28, from 1 to 3 p.m. Hamilton will answer questions about technique and color during that time; artists are welcome to paint in the Gallery at any time during this show. There is no charge to attend the painting session.
In the Studio Gallery, the Bay College Art Club show brings color and art from Fran Balcerak, Sharon Fosmo, Gladys Lewinski, Sherry Lofquist, Sharon Morey, Clara Mosenfelder, Darlene Prokos, and Jean Walllin. It will be on display through February 8.
There is never a charge to attend exhibits. For more information call (906) 786-3833.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge to visit the Gallery or attend receptions.
