This is where you'll find all our own opportunities for artists, as well as some from our Affiliates and friends.

Photo(GEO)graphy: Someplace Like Home

Submissions are accepted at the Arts Center from January 28 through 3 p.m. on February 6, 2010. The exhibit invites artists 18 years old and older residing in the Upper Peninsula to capture an image that shows a connection to "the place you consider home". Entries must have been completed within the last five years, and may be submitted as digital files on a Windows-compatible CD. Applications are available at the Center, and artists may submit three works for a fee of $12 for Arts Center members and $15 for non-members. Judges will be Andrea VanVorhis, Carole Elchert, adn Phyllis Banis, the three artists who will be displaying in the companion exhibit to Photo(GEO)graphy,  Converging Insight: Photographs of Pilgrimages from Four Continents. More than a dozen cash, certificate and story awards (in which a publication will feature a specific artist) will be presented at the Reception on March 26.

Fabrications II: Art Quilts of the U.P.

This multi media workshop presents some of the materials and techniques needed to incorporate fabrics, paints, papers, etc. into new and exciting fiber arts forms. Additionally, Norton leads discussion on how to improve your work with a review of basic design and color theories. So whether you're a quiIter wanting to experiment with more media, or a painter wanting to collect tips on working with fibers, join us for a day in the studio and create your own mixed media collage. Some materials included but students are required to bring items on the supply list which is available upon registration.
