Night of U.P. Poetry, Prose & Music

Bonifas Fine Arts Center 700 First Avenue South, Escanaba

Join us for a night of wonderful music and poetry. Stephen Hooper "Under This Cold Sky" will be performing his original Michigan inspired songs, along with B.G. Bradley reading some of his original poetry and prose about the U.P. An evening with these two is a beautiful journey through the U.P. "Writer B. G. Bradley and musician Steven Hooper know how to make everyone feel like Yoopers. Listening to Bradley spin his stories and poems is like sitting around a campfire with an old friend. When Hooper picks up his guitar and starts singing, you can hear fish jumping in silver water, deer leaping over fallen logs. Together, they conjure up the Spirit of the North, including the voice of the late writer John Voelker’s meditation on trout fishing. An evening with these two artists is truly a love letter to the Upper Peninsula." -Martin Achatz, Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Blues for a Cause announced that House of Hamill will perform in the Bonifas Arts Studio. This duo consists of Rose Baldino (of Burning Bridget Cleary) and Brian Buchanan (of Enter the Haggis). “House of Hamill is on the bleeding edge of a new generation of traditional musicians. Brian and Rose are both accomplished traditional fiddle players and classical violinists, and despite being young, have over 25 years of writing and performance experience between them. Together, they write unusual new fiddle tunes and exciting, unpredictable original songs while also breathing new life into traditional and contemporary songs. Both are confident and unique lead vocalists, and the blend of their two voices in harmony is hypnotic and irresistible.” Admission is by donation to help pay the musicians.
